BIOLOGY.
Pronounce as “frekel”; also known as “Ephelis” flat, light brown or red are often visible on people with a fair complexion. It can be seen to anyone. However, this condition also runs to the family, this is because there’s too much existence of MC1R gene variant. But for those who had much exposure to the sunlight, slight formation of freckles may also occur. Exposure to UV-B radiation increase melanin production, and sometimes this may cause darker freckles.

Freckles are usually found in individual’s face, but it may also become visible on any type of skin that frequently exposed to the sun, such as your back or shoulders. Although this is rare to see on infants, they are more commonly found in children ages 1 or 2 before they reach adolescent year.
Most freckles on a person’s skin comes in uniform color. Well, if you asked me that’s better rather than having a dot with different color, right? They appear to be darker than the surrounding skin. Those are the regular or simple freckle which we normally see in the face usually tan round and small, and there’s the sunburn freckle that are larger in shape and that are darker in color commonly be found on the upper back and shoulders where the sun exposure is greater.

Since its hard to change our genetic component in terms of having a freckled skin, there are ways on how to prevent them rather than trying to get rid of them, and according to specialist it’s harder and not always satisfactory. Not just freckles and sunburn, fair-skinned people are also at risk of skin cancers since they have less melanin on their skin that controls the amount of UV (Ultra violet) radiation from the sun that penetrates on skin by absorption.

• Bleaching Cream: Products that contains kojic acid and hydroquinone that can be bought without or with prescription. High concentrations of hydroquinone (up to over 2%) would likely to require a prescription. This kind of products help lighten those freckles if it is consistently applied over two to three months or so. It is most effective if you avoid the sun or apply a sunscreen if out under the sun.
• The use of Retinoid: The use of other bleaching creams like, Tazorac, Differin, Tretinoin (Retin-A), may help reduce the appearance of freckles when it is consistently applied for a longer period or several months.
• You can try Cryosurgery: Cryosurgery is performed in the doctor’s office, it is a light freeze liquid nitrogen that is used to lessen and treat freckles. Not every spots or freckles respond to burning or freezing.
• For the worst case freckles, try Laser treatment: Numerous types of lasers can really reduce and help the appearance of freckles successfully. Just like cryosurgery, this is really safe and simple method with low risk of skin discoloration or scarring and with high success rate.
